The September 21, 2024 local government elections in Isu LGA, Imo State were characterized by gross anomalies and a brazen hijacking of the electoral process by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Hon. Christian Uba, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) flag bearer for Isu LGA Executive Chairman.
In an exclusive interview, Uba revealed that there were no elections in Isu LGA, as sensitive materials like result sheets (Form EC8A, EC8B, EC8C) were either not delivered or hijacked by known individuals.
He stated that in wards like Ekwe, Amadugba, and his own polling unit, the electoral process was completely compromised.Uba lamented that voters were deprived of their civil rights and obligations due to deliberate attempts to frustrate the exercise.
He disclosed that election materials arrived at the LGA as late as 3:00 pm, and certain sensitive items were missing. A group of persons allegedly hijacked the available materials in a vehicle to an undisclosed location, where they wrote the results and subsequently announced them.
The NRM candidate emphasized that the people of Isu LGA demand a free, fair, and democratic process, and will not accept any form of imposition.
He vowed to expose the names of those involved in the hijacking and the vehicle used, in court.Isu electorates have decried the foul play and deprivation of their civil rights, calling on the election umpires and authorities to ensure due process and a level playing field for all.
They have expressed shock and anger at the arrogant display of bad character by some known individuals who hijacked the materials in Uzoafor Village, Isunjaba Ward 1, Uba's hometown.
The Isu LGA polls have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process in Imo State, with voters demanding that their democratic rights be respected and protected.
