NCWS lmo chapter hails Uzodimma, seeks 35% affirmative action on LG Polls for members


 

The National Council of Women's Societies (NCWS), lmo State chapter, under the pragmatic leadership of her President, Lady Stella Ngozi Anyacho, has applauded lmo State Governor, Distinquished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his continued magnanimity in gender-equality and women empowerment in the State.


In a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the apex women group in the State, Hon Chief (Mrs) Ego Ibeh and made available to the media, yesterday, the NCWS, lmo State chapter President, Lady Stella Ngozi Anyacho applauded the Governor's passion for women inclusion and participation in politics, evident in recent appointment of several women into his new cabinet.


NCWS, lmo State chapter, noted that the Association immensely appreciates the Governor for justifying the confidence reposed in him for demonstrating another feat on promotion of gender equality and women empowerment, hence, making lmo State an example to other States in the South East and beyond."We are indeed proud of your Excellency over your magnanimity ", the group stressed.


The Association who praised Governor Uzodimma for ensuring his new appointees ranging from Commissioners, Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) Special Assistants (SAs), Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), as well as the recent appointment of new High Court Judges (majority from the womenfolk) to serve in his Shared Prosperity Government, noted that Governor Uzodimma's decision was bold and significant, especially, in upholding regional and globally agreed standards to promoting the full and equal participation of women in the political and decision-making processes.


Similarly, the NCWS, lmo State chapter, has  appealed to the State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma to observe 35% affirmative action on women in the proposed local Government by considering more women for elective offices, especially members of NCWS extraction who are  Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants viz; Owerri North, Mbaitoli, Ngor Okpala, Nwangele;  ldeato North, Okigwe LGAs; among others in the elections slated for September 21, 2024, where the Association noted that a good number of women have indicated serious interest to occupy the positions, stating that such gesture by the Governor will promote gender equality and diversity.


The president who disclosed that the Association has been in various fora regarding women participation in active politics, acknowledged that both Governor Uzodimma's first and second tenure are remarkable as he has demonstrated both in words and action that inclusion of women and youths into his cabinet is the thrust that his administration values and cherishes.


The women group asserted that women empowerment to be at the forefront of leadership should not be just a matter of fairness, but a necessity for what they described as inclusive, innovative and thriving society.


The women group maintained that the forthcoming Council elections is the right time to grant full support to the grassroots-oriented Imo women for them to create impact at the Local Government level, which the group argued is the closest tier of Government of the country, Nigeria.


It will be recalled that at the last count, the womenfolk have recorded a reasonable number of aspirants both for the Chairmanship and Councillorship seats of various local Government Areas, even as NCWS , lmo State chapter has prayed God to continue to sustain the quality leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma, as well as use him to facilitate more women participation and empowerment in active politics, especially, through the forthcoming Council elections in the State, ensuring more women emerge victorious in both Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.
