Nationwide Protest: Tinubu Meets Traditional Rulers at Aso Villa

President Bola Tinubu is currently meeting with traditional rulers at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, in light of growing calls for nationwide protests against economic hardship, scheduled for August 1-10, 2024.

Leading the delegation of royal fathers are the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi.

The meeting commenced at approximately 2:30 pm upon the President's arrival at the Council Chamber.

While the specific agenda of Thursday’s meeting remains undisclosed, it is believed to be connected to the impending protests organized under the hashtag ‘EndBadGovernance.’

These protests have garnered significant traction on social media, despite the anonymity of the organizers.

In attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Governors Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman of Kwara State, chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, and Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, are also present.

Additionally, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, are participating in the discussions.

Earlier, President Tinubu engaged in talks with APC Governors at the Villa. However, the Governors did not brief the press following their meeting.
