Imo Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robbers, Cultist, Recover Weapons .

In the early hours of 26th July 2024, operatives from the Command Tactical Unit, acting on intelligence-led stop-and-search along the Owerri-Aba road, apprehended two suspected armed robbers, Ntosi Godfrey, 37, and Nnamdi Raymond, while they were en route to Owerri in a green Toyota Golf, registration number AA775BD Lagos. The vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a victim in Umuahia.

This was contained in a press release signed by ASP Okoye Henry, ANIPR  Police Public Relations Officer  For: Commissioner of Police

Imo State Command.

The suspects engaged in a gunfight with the police operatives upon spotting them, but the determined officers countered effectively. During the exchange of fire, one suspect sustained gunshot wounds and was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the other suspect was arrested.

Recovered from the suspects were a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated firearm, ten rounds of live cartridges, and the Toyota Golf. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being members of a dangerous armed robbery syndicate operating in Umuahia and identified another suspect still at large.

In a separate operation, on 18th July 2024 at approximately 06:50 hours, the Nekede Divisional Headquarters' operatives, in collaboration with local vigilantes, conducted a sting operation on a suspected cultist hideout. This operation followed a tip-off regarding plans by rival cult groups to disrupt the peace and security of Umuanunu Obinze in Owerri West LGA, Imo State, and other areas in the state.

One suspected cultist, Chibueze Kalu, 25, was arrested during the operation, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him. The suspect admitted to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.

A comprehensive investigation is ongoing, with efforts being made to trace the manufacturers and distributors of the locally-made guns to ensure they face legal consequences. The suspects will be brought to justice in due course.

Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, affirmed the Command’s steadfast commitment to eradicating crime in the state. He emphasized that the police will continue to target notorious criminal syndicates within the state and its borders.

CP Danjuma urged residents of Imo State to remain vigilant and support the police and other security agencies by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
