APC Vows to Address Economic Challenges, Invests Billions in Agriculture

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reiterated its commitment to addressing key dysfunctions in the Nigerian economy through significant investments in the agricultural sector.

This announcement comes amid calls for a nationwide protest on August 1 against the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu.

During an appearance on Channels TV’s *Politics Today* on Wednesday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, revealed that the party has supported 107,429 wheat farmers and invested billions of naira to boost agricultural productivity.

Basiru highlighted the global factors affecting Nigeria’s economy, including the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ukrainian war, and the crisis in the Middle East.

He emphasized the need for a patriotic and clear-sighted approach to galvanize the economy and enhance production and infrastructure to improve the welfare and security of Nigerians.

He stated, "We must ensure that our economy is galvanized and that production and infrastructure reach levels that will enable us to deliver on the welfare and security of our people."

Basiru also underscored the presidency's focus on agriculture as a means to achieve food security and tackle economic challenges.

He pointed out that the government has cultivated 118,857 hectares of wheat across 15 states and provided support to over 107,000 farmers in the wheat sector alone.

“We are addressing the problems caused by the subsidized foreign exchange system, which has hindered Nigeria's competitiveness in the global economy.

We are also tackling the dysfunctionality in the energy sector caused by the subsidy regime and investing heavily in infrastructure,” Basiru added.

The APC's efforts to reform the economy and ensure food security reflect its broader strategy to address Nigeria's economic challenges and improve the living standards of its citizens.
