Aftermath Court Ruling: AMLSN Board of Trustees Swears in Odionyenma as New National President

Dr. Uche Odionyenma has been sworn in as the new National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) following a court ruling that affirmed his eligibility for the position.

Before the swearing-in ceremony of the new president, the Board of Trustees (BOT) members informed the former president of the association in a release about the court ruling which annulled his tenure. They advised him to obey the judgment and embrace peace for the betterment of the association.

On June 13, 2024, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, sitting in Abuja, dismissed the motion for stay of execution of the October 10th, 2023, judgment. The court went further in affirming the victory of Dr. Uche Odionyenma as the National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) and insisted that he must be sworn in immediately.

The court ruled that Dr. Odionyenma was the only qualified candidate for the position of National President based on the association's constitution. The judgment further directed the Board of Trustees of AMLSN to swear in the Claimant (Dr. Odionyenma) immediately as the National President of the Association.

In his address immediately after his assumption of his position as the new president, Dr. Odionyenma expressed gratitude to God and acknowledged the Board of Trustees' support for upholding the rule of law.

He clarified that he did not take any member of the association to court, but rather challenged the violation of the association's constitution by the previous executive committee led by Dr. Bassey.

Dr. Odionyenma stated that the court ruled in his favor, determining that he was the only qualified candidate for the position of National President based on the association's constitution.

Using the opportunity, he  emphasized his desire to take the profession to greater heights and lead with integrity, while prioritizing the unity of the association and working in consultation with positive-minded individuals.

He reassured the National Executive Officers that the judgments were targeted at the office of the National President only and that the Executive Secretary, Mr. Ihimekpen, has shown maturity and allegiance to the profession.

Concluding his speech, the Owerri born medical expert Odionyenma, announced the suspension of the proposed Special General Meeting to allow for further consultations with the National Executive Officers and other stakeholders.
