The state government has reiterated its commitment to sanitise land administration in the state with a view of developing the state with its attendant resources.
Addressing Traditional Rulers and President Generals of Irete and Umuguma autonomous Communities, the Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning. Hon Noble .A. Atulegwu warned that government will stop at nothing at recovering all stolen lands in the state and warn grabbers to stay clear.
He stated that their forefathers fought for the state capital to be situated in their area and reminded the traditional rulers that to whom much is given much is expected.
Speaking further, Hon Atulegwu reminded them that government will need lands within the capital territory to develop the area. He expressed regret that most communities within the capital territory are encroaching and selling government acquired lands .This, he said must stop as government will henceforth deal decisively with anybody or groups that violates this order.
Sir Atulegwu noted that the governor directed that he meets and interacts with leaders of various communities in the capital territory to inform them on the need to queue into government policies and plans as it concerns lands administration. He pointed that this has become pertinent because government will soon go hard on offenders.
Atulegwu stated that Imo is lucky to have a governor who is not greedy or ready to allocate a plot of land to himself as seen in other leaders who at one time or the other were in charge of the state lands .
The Lands boss advised the communities to write officially to government through the ministry anytime they feel certain privileges are being denied them and assured them that the government will not fail them.
He reaffirmed government's determination to bring the Ontisha road industrial area to life and promised that government will soon make an official statement to that effect. He decried the situation where allottees abandoned their sites for years when serious investors are looking for places to establish industries in the state.
Responding, the traditional ruler of Irete, HRH Eze E.C Ekwelebe called on the government to quickly take a decision on the abandoned plots at the Onitsha Road industrial area jointly owned by Irete and Umuguma people as criminals are using the abandoned plots as hideouts and caves for their criminal activities.
Lending his voice, the traditional ruler of Umuguma community, HRH Eze G N Ugorji enjoined the government to do the road leading to the area to encourage investors to come into the place..
