Onyekanma donates two bungalows to indigent widows, as birthday gifts

The member representing Mbaitoli state constituency at the Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Okey Onyekanma, on Sunday, donated two (2) bungalows to indigent widows in Mbaitoli communities, to mark his 46th birthday.


The beneficiaries, Mrs. Celine Amadioha and Mrs. Rose Ekwonye had until now been living in deplorable shanties until the humanitarian lawmaker intervened.


Speaking during the dedication of the projects at Umuezealaeze, Alaenyi Ogwa and Umuagha, Eziama-Obiato communities in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo state, Onyekanma explained that the gesture was to alleviate the sufferings of the widows who were selected based on their state of lack and living conditions.


He noted that he was moved to compassion when he heard the living conditions of the underprivileged widows and decided to build decent two-bedroom bungalow each, for the women


Recall that the former deputy speaker had on Wednesday, August 18, donated a two-bedroom bungalow to a poor widow, Mrs Ngozi Tasie, from Umuchoke, Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA.


Handing over the keys to the beneficiaries, Onyekanma explained that "this is my birthday gift to you. I was moved to compassion when I heard the story of your living conditions and I decided to be an instrument of joy in your lives."


The widows, who were visibly elated and soaked in tears of joy, danced alongside friends and well-wishers and showered praises and blessings on Onyekanma.


"For providing shelter to homeless widows, for bringing succor to the sorrows of  hopeless widows, you will never lack. God will grant you the grace and resources to keep doing more for your people. Anyone who digs a pit for you, shall fall therein to their own hurt," they prayed.


In their separate remarks, the President General of Umuagha autonomous community, Rev. Chuks Ebereonwu, chairman of Umuokpara-Obuoka village, Mr. Emmanuel Ekwonye, Mr. Samuel Aghanama and Chief. Obioha Ugochukwu, traditional village head of Umuezealaeze, expressed gratitude to the star lawmaker for becoming an instrument of God’s blessing to the families of the widows.
