The biblical saying that there is joy in sharing was made manifest on Sunday 6th December, 2020, at the Egbukole compound in Egbu Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, as the children of Vestal Egbukole of blessed memory brought smiles to the faces of the less privileged in the society.
The Over 210 women of Owerri North who benefitted from the magnanimity of Vestal foundation had come from the 21 autonomous communities in Owerri North at the invitation of the foundation in the spirit of Christmas.
As early as 9.00am many of them had started trooping into the Eze' compound.
As they patiently waited for the precious moment when the event was billed to start, they had sitted in the canopies according to there communities for the event.
The venue was however enlivened when around 11am HRM Eze Uchenna Egbukole and his siblings arrived at the arena with songs of joy from the crowd who were visible excited that finally, their patience and long wait would soon be paying off.
Shortly after there arrival HRM Eze Uchenna Egbukole and his siblings waved to the crowd at the canopies, lending their voice to th songs of praise and Thanksgiving erupted from the crowd who were full of Thanksgiving to God.
Amidst the songs and shouts of joy, Eze and his siblings with the man of God venerable Chidi Amadi, the Vicar, Chuch of All Saints Cathedral Church Egbu, proceeded to where the bags of rice, cartons of tomatoes, Groundnut oil, Cartons of beverages were kept, and the vicar had a short prayer session to bless the items and the donors.
In his speech, HRM Eze Uchenna Egbukole, said that the 6th of December, 2020, marked three years gat his mother passed on, a year after she passed on, the family came together and decided to set up a foundation to help the indigent needy people and empower people also.
He said they started with Egbu a year ago, the 21 kindred, we selected five from each kindred and gave them N120, 000 each to start up small business now we thought of going beyond Egbu, so we went outside Egbu to Owerri North, the 21 autonomous communities in Owerri North, to touch lives of people beyond Egbu, and we wrote letters to all the Eze's in the 21 autonomous communities in Owerri North, and ask them tk identify 10 indigent women who needs assistance and bring their names.
Continuing, this time we decided to empower them because we know that the Corona virus have affected the whole world, which Nigeria is included, so we try to give back, something according to him, that his mum would have done if she was alive, she has always touch lives of people positively, so we borrowed that leaves from her.
In his own remark, the younger brother to Eze, prince Ikenna Egbukole, noted that Vestal foundation, plans to reach out all tge country, last year, it was just Egbu community, this year we have gone to Owerri North, next year we are going to Owerri Federal Constituency, by 2022, we will go to Owerri zone, and by 2023 we will get Imo State, by 2024, tfat will be Nigerai as a whole.
He pointed out that the foundation is getting its support from corporate bodies and not from government, it is a non-governmental and non-political structure, adding that they are not looking for any government contract or appointment, what we want is just to touch lives, to make people around happy.
For the State Coordinator of Vestal foundation, Mr Ugochukwu Opara, he thanked the beneficiaries for coming to grace the occasion, and all that have made out time to put colours to the event.
Highlight of the event, was the sharing of the items according to tbe 10 women from each autonomous communities, the presence of all the 21 President General of each Community, the Special Adviser to the Governor and coordinator for Donor funds, Barr. Ogechi Njoku, and also member representing Owerri North in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Philip Ejiogu., Hon. Justin Brown Amadi and a host of others.
